Media Association Shocked and Saddened by Passing of Karl Young of Grove Broadcasting Print
Thursday, 10 June 2010 23:33

It is with profound sadness and shock that the media fraternity heard of the death of Karl Young, the Chairman of Grove Broadcasting Limited, operators of IRIE FM and ZIP FM.

Karl was a strong supporter of the MAJ for many years and could be relied on for forthright engagement and strong commitment to the independence of the Media Industry and its sustainability.

Through his two stations, IRIE and ZIP FM, Mr. Young demonstrated creativity, innovation and made a lasting impact on the broadcasting industry in Jamaica.

He had an unassuming approach to many things but once engaged would be shown to be astute, wily and on top of industry happenings from engineering, programming and business perspectives.

He had an eye for talent and pursued his goals effectively, relentlessly and successfully.  His departure from the industry will be missed by all of his colleagues.

The MAJ expresses condolences to Karl’s family and especially his son and IRIE FM Chief Executive, Chad Young, his staff and all the other members of the IRIE FM family.
