Jamaica has been ranked 13th in the world for press freedom by Reporters Without Borders, which is something for all to celebrate, especially on a day like today, and where there are so many other countries faced with greater press freedom challenges.  Press freedom is indeed alive and all stakeholders must be credited for this achievement.

The Media Association of Jamaica (MAJ) is pleased that the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) has been invited to meet with the Minister with Responsibility for Information at the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday April 25 to discuss media relations and access.   The MAJ is confident that a mutually agreeable solution will be found which will preserve ready access to the Prime Minister and all public officials by our journalists.

The MAJ expresses condolences to the family and associates of Veteran Broadcaster, Desmond Elliot and wishes them strength in their time of grief.

Mr. Elliot who served the media industry for over 30 years was held in high regard and will be remembered as an experienced and well-informed producer, director, broadcaster and journalist.

The Media Association Jamaica Limited is saddened by the passing of Disc Jock Michael “Mighty Mike” Jones.

“Mighty Mike” a veteran in the industry, particularly on Irie FM radio, will be missed.  The MAJ expresses condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
